Pez, you're a wonder, thank you so much! :D It does fit in the microwave and it's brilliant.

(She sent me a little rice-cooker that goes in the microwave! We've got really elderly and erratic electric hotplates for cooking on, and rice tends to come out both gooey and crispy when cooked on them. Yes, both at once. We had rice from the rice-cooker with lunch and oh wow, so much better. So much! The fact that it's kind of smaller and easier to put away than a regular rice cooker for the same sort of amount of rice is also a plus, given the size of our kitchen.* :) )

* Note: if you actually saw our kitchen you'd hate me forever for saying this. It's a big room! It just... there are no flat surfaces. Aagh.

Now photos:

World just looks damp and grey out the window today but it was kind of amazing down by the lake. Photos don't really do justice but I took them anyway.

And somewhere under here is the path by the river, but the ducks have claimed it. We took the long way around.

So yeah, in case you wondered what spring looked like in Sweden! *g*

The image quality is a bit on the crap side, because I don't have a scanner, only a camera, but I thought I should share this:

Would you like to be young again? One gulp for sixpence!Collapse )

Looks like 7th to 26th of August and 20th to 24th of September this year, Wear It Like a Crown (Cirkus Cirkör's new show) will be running in Stockholm (source). It's opening in April and playing various other places around Sweden first. Presumably if it enjoys the kind of success Inside Out has done then an international tour later on wouldn't be completely improbable, but anyhow, consider yourselves notified for the Stockholm dates. :)

I love how in the ITV adaptation of A Scandal in Bohemia there is that scene where Irene Adler is sitting around at some kind of cabaret thing, wearing a tuxedo. I believe I have remarked upon this scene before. I also love how, although she is in the company of the king, who is her lover at the time, she is quite evidently more interested in eyeing up the legs of the girls dancing on stage.

It's pretty fun.

That's all I'm sayin'.

We watched Bröderna Lejonhjärta (The Brothers Lionheart) yesterday. It's from an Astrid Lindgren book of the same name. It's a children's classic and, so Val says, one of those things everyone knows about.

What is it about? Well, basically, children dying in horrible ways. The long version...Collapse )

(So yeah, it was actually a pretty good film as far as I could tell - although let's not talk about the glove-puppet Evil Dragon - but fucking hell, Sweden.)

Hattifatteners (Hattifnattar). They're the dudes from the Moomin books who are basically little perambulatory electric condoms. They're kind of awesome, in that personality-less and vaguely horrifying kind of way. We have tea-cups with pictures of them on! Mysteriously, in one part of the design, they are sitting around (inasmuch as a little electric condom dude can sit) with cups of tea:

and what I want to know is, is how do they plan on actually drinking that tea? ;;;

This is why I shouldn't be left unattended with a camera, yes.
